Utility of Cross-battery Assessment and Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses in SLD Identification: The Cross-Battery Approach, SLD Identification, and Evaluation of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students

3.5 hours running time

The workshop will begin with a description of Cross-Battery Assessment, highlighting the many ways in which the approach has improved and focus on the main cross-battery software program – the Data Management and Interpretive Assistant (DMIA v2.0) – and provide specific examples of how to use this program in practice via demonstrations with actual data.

The primary objectives of this discussion include:

  • Alternative research-based approaches to SLD identification and highlight the conceptual similarities among them
  • The alternative research-based approach developed, known as the dual discrepancy/consistency pattern of strengths and weaknesses approach (DD/C PSW)
  • Demonstration of the new Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses Analyzer (PSW-A v1.0) software program
  • Demonstration of the Use of the Culture-Language and Interpretive Matrix (C-LIM v2.0) software program

Vincent C. Alfonso, PhD, is the Dean of and Professor in the School of Education at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. He is past president of Division 16 (School Psychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA), and fellow of Divisions 16 and 5 of the APA.
