Suicide Prevention in the Schools: Best Practices 2015

This workshop will focus on the latest evidence based strategies for school suicide prevention.
Issues to be discussed include most recent research; promising prevention strategies such as depression screening; duties and responsibilities of school safety/crisis teams; utilization of no harm agreements; re-entry conferences when students return from hospitalization; responding in the aftermath of suicide; working with the media; limiting contagion and appropriate ways to memorialize students who die by suicide.
Stephen E. Brock, Ph.D., NCSP, LEP is an associate professor in the school psychology training program at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), and the president of National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) 2014-2015.
Richard Lieberman, MA, NCSP is currently lead consultant for the CalMHSA Student Mental Health Initiative for the Los Angeles County Office of Education. He is a lecturer in the Graduate School of Education at Loyola Mount University and from 1986-2011 he coordinated Suicide Prevention Services for Los Angeles Unified School District.
This course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for LEPs, LPCCs, LMFTs and LCSWs. This course also qualifies for 6 hours of continuing professional development for Nationally Certified School Psychologists, under provider number 1025. The California Association of School Psychologists maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
