Advocating for School Psychologists
Advocating for school psychologists and the communities they serve is a core part of CASP’s mission. We regularly work with legislators and strategic partners on key issues that provide more mental health services for students throughout the state. We collaborate with government agencies in California and nationwide to ensure mental health funding.
Legislative Action Days
Every year in March, CASP convenes in our State Capitol to advocate for legislation that advances the well-being of the children, schools, and communities we serve in California. CASP members from around the state learn about pressing issues and relevant legislation while meeting with legislators and government officials.
Legislative and Advocacy Committee
The CASP Legislative and Advocacy Committee advances the mission of the California Association of School Psychologists by developing and promoting a proactive legislative agenda that supports the academic, behavioral, and mental health needs of all students while strengthening the role and impact of school psychologists. The committee identifies emerging policy issues, monitors legislation, and collaborates with stakeholders to advocate for equitable, research-based policies and sustainable funding.
With a focus on systemic equity, inclusive school environments, and workforce development, the committee ensures CASP is a credible, informed, and influential voice in shaping public policy. Internally, the committee advises the CASP Board, supports strategic planning, and helps align advocacy efforts with the organization’s core values and legislative priorities.
Legislative Priorities
CASP is focused on key priorities that ensure adequate funding and support for mental health services in our schools. That means championing the vital role school psychologists play in supporting students. We also prioritize serving California’s vulnerable and marginalized populations and providing access to services and opportunities for all students. Every two years, our Legislative Committee and Board of Directors announce our legislative priorities.
