This webinar will focus on key case law and emerging legal trends surrounding psychoeducation assessments and the concept of the least restrictive environment (LRE) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Viewers will explore recent court rulings that impact the assessment process for students with disabilities and how these decisions shape educational placements. The session will also address how schools can balance legal requirements with the need to provide appropriate support in the least restrictive setting. Viewers will gain insight into best practices for compliance with IDEA while ensuring educational equity for students with special needs. Practical examples and real-world applications will be provided throughout the webinar.

 

Speakers

Marcy Gutierrez is partner and co-founder of Heyer Gutierrez, LLP. Marcy has worked in public education her entire career, spanning over thirty years. She started her career as a high school teacher, and transitioned to the legal field in the year 2000, where she has worked exclusively on behalf of school districts and other education entities, advocating for public schools. Marcy earned her undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis, and earned her teaching credential at California State University, Sacramento. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and is an Adjunct Professor at California State University, Sacramento. Marcy is the mother of two daughters, who are both attending college. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, hiking, traveling, and listening to her favorite podcasts
