This mini-skills will focus on early childhood assessments and highlight a collaborative approach with inclusive practices. Specifically, we will cover how to approach these types of assessments with cultural sensitivity, an understanding of language development, and knowledge of how behaviors of preschool-aged children can have a resemblance to different disorders.

Speakers

Jeannine Topaline has been serving as a school psychologist for Los Angeles Unified School District for nearly 20 years. She is currently an administrator in Psychological Services in LAUSD and CASP President. Dr. Topalian has extensive knowledge of and experience in working with culturally diverse youth for over 20 years. Dr. Topalian works with the principal, school and support staff, parents, students, and community agencies to implement school-wide instructional, mental health services, and crisis and behavioral prevention and intervention programs. She also works specifically with students with special needs and is certified/licensed to assess, evaluate, and service students with behavior challenges, neurological disorders, intellectual delays, autism, emotional disturbance, specific learning disabilities, and other health impairments.

 

Melissa Wood Currently, I am a SELPA Coordinator for the Kern County Consortium SELPA. I was previously a school psychologist and Director of special education for the Taft City School District. I am honored to be the CASP President-Elect and to support the vision and mission of this state association!

CEUs/CPDs

LMFTs/LCSWs/LPCCs/LEPs: This course meets the qualifications for 1 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs/LCSWs/LPCCs/LEPs licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. NCSPs: The course meets the qualifications for 1 hours of Continuing Professional Development for Nationally Certified School Psychologists, under Provider Number 1025, licensed by the National Association of School Psychologists. CASP is responsible for the content of this workshop.
